We've just heard through our grapevine that influential art dealer Jay Jopling is hoping to open a third White Cube gallery in a disused warehouse round the corner from our studio.
This news is causing much excitement in the studio as it would be another significant factor in the continuing transformation of our local area, which is being led by the building of the Shard by London Bridge station.
White Cube plans to turn 2,278 square metres of warehouse into two gallery spaces and a 60 to 70 seat auditorium. The large yard at the front of the building will be opened up to create a new piazza.
The single-storey building, with its high roof and good natural light, is likely to become a key fixture on the London art scene as White Cube represents the commercial interests of artists such as Jake & Dinos Chapman, Tracey Emin, Marcus Harvey, Damien Hirst, Gary Hume, Marc Quinn and Sam Taylor-Wood.
Southwark Council is currently considering the proposal, so fingers crossed that they give it their approval!
